Friends, this blog has been a dream of mine for quite some time. It's been a long time coming and I'm so excited to share my thoughts with you! Grab your favorite coffee or tea and let's connect!
What do people most desire from you? The true and authentic, uncovered and whole you. People don’t want fake. They don’t want perfect. They want and need who you are at the deepest layer. But how can we give the world our true selves if we, ourselves are not connected to our true selves? What if we don’t know who our true selves are? Can we still connect authentically with people?
The truth is, if you are not connected to yourself, you cannot authentically connect with others. Period.
Why? Because if we are not connected to ourselves in a moment, we are distracted, our capacity to be present is limited, and if we are “happy”, but disconnected, it’s often out of performance, rather than authenticity.
The question is, how do you authentically get connected to yourself?
Getting connected to yourself looks like this:
When you see this list, do these things feel easy to connect with? If they feel scary or big, that’s okay. If you’re realizing you’ve been “faking it, till you make it” the majority of your adult life, that’s okay too.
Most people live outside of their connected and true selves because they have so perfected the art of performing and always being okay. Practice small moments of being honest. When someone asks you how you are, it’s okay to say “I’m not doing too well” or “This season has been a struggle”.
The reality is, every person is struggling in some area. We are all looking for belonging and we are all desperately looking for people who can be honest about how hard life can be. Why? Because society celebrates when we’re “always doing okay”. Society celebrates the successes and performances and highlights.
You don’t need to pour out your deepest darkest secrets to every person who asks how you are, but you can still be honest with the reality of where life is right now for you. Being honest and transparent with people connects us and can often bring relief to others who are stuck in the performance race as well.
