What Planning A Wedding Is Really Like

First, it’s dreamy

They say planning a wedding is stressful. And yet this is a day you have been dreaming of and subtly planning in your mind since you were a little girl. All those times your Mom’s best friends cousin invited you to their wedding, those extended family brides, and maybe even some close ones too, you dreamed. You watched the rom coms with the bride going crazy planning a wedding, or the ones where it’s a perfect dream and all roses and butterflies. And all along you were storing up ideas of what it would be like to be getting married yourself.

And now, you are here. In the moment that you’ve dreamt up for so long. Getting married!

And it’s exciting, and a little terrifying, and fun, and crazy! All at the same time!

I’ll be honest, for me and my fiance, it was dreamy as we dreamed together about getting married. It was rosy while I was scrolling through pinterest looking at all the dreamy, wonderful photos of other people’s weddings. It was lovely and all fuzzy and warm feelings, and then…

It all settled in.

We started planning the actual wedding and things got stressful real fast. The money that was about to go in a bajillion different places. Where do you buy your suits? Do we rent or do we buy? Real flowers or fake flowers, and uhh how many? Who’s in the wedding and how the heck are the girls getting their dresses? Oh yeah, and my wedding dress? Who knew a white dress could be so dang expensive!

It seemed like all the money we had was rolling right out the window just thinking about what all we had to buy. And not only were we buying so many things, we were also doing the majority of our wedding DIY style. Input the cheesy side-eye grin. We’re crazy, I know. Trust me, we saved hundreds of dollars, but doing things yourself in such a large quantity TAKES SOME TIME! Like really, I had no idea!

But let me tell you

Somehow things all get done in the time you need it. The money comes in just as you need it. The people come to help, just as you need it. And it’ll be such a beautiful day. And a little reminder, it’s just a day. A day you will remember and cherish regardless of if everything went exactly as planned. Regardless of if the weather was perfect or absolutely horrendous. I promise it will still be just as lovely because at the end of the day, you spent the day getting ready, getting married, and spending time celebrating with the ones you love most.

So let the stress fall off you and just take in the time that’s ahead of you. Soak in this season of preparing and not yet being newlyweds. Take in the time of sweetness of the “yet to comes” and the “I’m excited for”‘s. It will go faster than you think, trust me!

And a little piece of advice

You don’t have to do it all alone. You have people you can call to delegate tasks to, you have friends that want to help you prepare, Grandparents that want to listen in and maybe even help you celebrate and be excited! This is a busy season and you don’t want to spend the entire time stressing about all the things that could go wrong or are not going as planned.

If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed, call a friend and just talk through everything that’s on your mind. Call your Mom, call your Dad, call your soon-to-be Mother-In-Law. I promise, people want to help you through this chaotic and exciting season, so give them an opportunity and give yourself an outlet to get help. It will make your time so much easier and help you relax a bit more.

Happy planning!
